Thanks for being here! I am a full-time freelance sports writer. Paid subscriptions to this newsletter allow me to dedicate more time to this work, including hiring an editor to help me with longer, more involved posts. This financial support will also help me shoulder the costs of my planned move to Beehiiv, which has been a long time coming.
Paid subscribers also have access to a Discord server where we chat queer women’s sports, as well as events like our monthly book club (this month’s selection is One of the Boys by Victoria Zeller). You can upgrade here:
As I settle into a new school year beginning for my kids, we will also be back to our regularly scheduled programming around these parts, with more frequent newsletters coming your way. Thanks for your patience and for sticking with me through the ebbs and flows of life.
Now, onto the fun stuff!
Oral History Live! Virtual Roundtable with Boston Roller Derby
Tonight, I’ll be celebrating 20 years of Boston Roller Derby with Boston’s Queer History Project!
From scrappy rinks in 2005 to shaping the future of inclusive, competitive derby, BRD has been rewriting the rules of sport, identity, and community. I’ll be joining some founding skaters to look back on the hits, the heart, and the legacy of two decades on wheels.
RSVP here.
The Year’s Best Sports Writing 2025
I’m absolutely delighted to announce that one of my stories has been selected by Hanif Abdurraqib to appear in The Year’s Best Sports Writing 2025. The featured story is my profile of the all-trans pickup league for SELF magazine, titled “Let’s Hear It for the Dolls: A Day Shooting Hoops With Brooklyn’s Trans Basketball League.”
My work will be featured alongside an absolute powerhouse of an author lineup. It’s a far more diverse list than I’ve ever seen included and I’m stoked to read all of their contributions.
The book publishes October 7th but you can preorder a copy now.
That’s all for now! I’ll be back soon with more of the content you’re here to read.
