Hi, everyone! We have so many new faces here. Welcome to the Out of Your League community! I am a full-time independent sportswriter and your support allows me to continue doing this work. I use paid subscription money to hire an editor for my reporting, and I’ve recently acquired legal support through beehiiv. My goal is to eventually purchase a media insurance policy to pursue investigative journalism through this newsletter.

An All-Access VIP or Biggest Fan tier subscription also supports the community that we are building here, which includes events like the Out of Your League Book Club and author events like this one, and our (very active) paid subscriber Discord server. You can upgrade here:

OOYL special author event: COURT QUEENS

I am so excited to announce a virtual event with Emma Baccellieri and Jordan Robinson, the authors of the excellent new book COURT QUEENS: Celebrate the Players, Teams, and History of Women's Basketball.

This event is perfect whether you’re a longtime WNBA fan who wants to reminisce, a new women’s basketball wanting to learn more, or a history lover always looking to discover stories and context. Emma is a long-time staff writer at Sports Illustrated, and Jordan is a women’s basketball writer, host of the Women’s Hoops Show podcast, and author of The Guardian’s WNBA newsletter. The three of us are thrilled to get to nerd out about women’s basketball with all of you.

From the book’s description:

Deeply researched and deftly written, this love letter to the game covers the history of college and professional women's basketball through vivid portraits of forgotten heroes, individual games, unforgettable moments, and iconic teams and seasons. Journalists and superfans Emma Baccellieri and Jordan Robinson begin with Senda Berenson introducing the game to women at Smith College in 1892--where the players wore ankle-length skirts!--and chart the growth of the sport around the country over the decades that followed. From six-on-six to five-on-five, college to professional to international, they cover the people who have defined women's basketball.

Our Zoom event will be on Wednesday, July 15th at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT. Emma and Jordan will be joining us for that conversation, which is only open to VIP All-Access or Biggest Fan tier paid subscribers. The conversation will be recorded and sent out to everyone who registered for the event, so you can watch it even if you can’t join us live.

Access to the Zoom event requires registration. You can register for ‘COURT QUEENS’ AUTHOR EVENT at the link below:
