Thank you for being here! I am a full-time freelance sportswriter and your support allows me to continue doing work like this. If you appreciate my work, I would be really grateful if you considered upgrading to a paid subscription. I use paid subscription money to hire an editor for my reporting, and I’ve recently acquired legal support through beehiiv. I am about 50 paid subscribers away from being able to reliably fund travel to report more stories for the newsletter, as well as purchase a media insurance policy to allow me to do more investigative journalism here.
A paid subscription also supports the community that we are building here, which includes events like the Out of Your League Book Club (this month we are reading HOW YOU GET THE GIRL by Anita Kelly) and our (very active) paid subscriber Discord server. You can upgrade here:
scenes from the press box

It’s been a busy couple of months for me, as I’ve spent way more time in press boxes than usual. Because I’m not a beat writer and because for so long Boston didn’t have women’s sports teams for me to go cover in person, I generally only report from the press box when I’m on assignment for a story that requires me to do so.
But thanks to the addition of the Boston Legacy and Boston Fleet over the last couple of seasons, there are way more teams for me to follow locally. I’m also planning to get to a Boston Banshees (rugby) and Boston Guard (lacrosse) game this season if I can. Reporting in-person from games is a very different kind of job than I typically do, which is reporting stories from the comfort of my bed (just being super real with you!). Having additional income from the increase in paid subscribers also helps contribute to my ability to go cover the teams in person—gas money is not cheap for me to drive an hour each way for the Legacy and Fleet or 2.5 hours each way for the Connecticut Sun (if you’d like to contribute to my ability to travel to report more stories, please consider upgrading to a paid subscription or a higher subscription tier!)
In general, different sports have different press box vibes. Here is the behind-the-scenes you didn’t ask for and maybe didn’t need, where I rate the vibes, view, and media food in each press box.
