Thanks so much for your patience while I get back to regularly scheduled programming. My partner and I had an unexpected family emergency out of state last week and are just now getting our feet back under us.

I was able to take the time needed to help our family members as a direct result of all the new paid subscribers who upgraded last week, so thank you for being here. You can upgrade to a paid subscription below to continue supporting my work:

why I said no to piers morgan

Yesterday I was invited to appear on Piers Morgan Uncensored alongside Lord Sebastian Coe, who could potentially be the next president of the International Olympic Committee. Coe would be “giving his reaction to President Trump's trans athletes ban” and I was asked to join to “discuss what needs to be done ahead of the US Olympics.”

Hi Frankie, Hope you're well. I'm [NAME] from Piers Morgan Uncensored, the world's most-watched digital news show. I'm reaching out because on tomorrow's show we have Lord Sebastian Coe who looks set to become the next president of the IOC. He'll be giving his reaction to President Trump's trans athletes ban and I was hoping you'd be interested in joining us to discuss what needs to be done ahead of the US Olympics? I know our viewers would be interested in hearing your perspective on the issues at hand. We'd tape at 12pET. Hope we can make it work. All the best, [NAME] | Piers Morgan Uncensored

My response? Privately, I texted several other media friends a screenshot of the email alongside the text “hahahahahahaha.” Professionally, I sent a quick response.

Hi, [NAME], Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, I don’t feel that my views would be fairly represented because this show has a long-demonstrated bias against trans athletes and trans people. Best of luck. Frankie

I get requests like this from time to time and my answer is always the same. I know that other people may have their own views on this but personally, I don’t debate people who see me and my community as less than human—and that’s how you see us, if you don’t think that we should have the same rights as everyone else.

But it’s more than that. Piers Morgan has been attacking CeCé Telfer, the trans track and field athlete who has been fighting for a shot at the Olympics since she won her NCAA championship in 2019 (I covered Telfer’s plight for SELF last year). After Telfer appeared on CNN, Morgan sent a tweet calling the interview “absurd,” misgendering her, and spewing transphobic (and, imo, racist) insults at her. He has made his position on the matter quite clear.

So no, I’m not going to go on Piers Morgan’s show to be set up for failure and argued with about whether an entire group of people deserves to be treated like equal humans. Not only would I be setting myself up for failure, I’d be exposing myself to his audience, which would mean being subjected to a deluge of hatred and harassment.

(Dis)respectfully, get fucked, Piers Morgan.

quick hits

Nike has announced a new partnership with SKIMS (thanks to OOYL subscriber

Staci Jackson
for posting this in the chat!). For those of you who have been around a while, you know how I feel about SKIMS moving into the women’s sports space with their WNBA partnership (I hate it, thanks!). The language of this new press release made me raise my eyebrows in a couple of different places. It reads (emphasis mine):
